10.30am Tuesday 14th May 2019
Following on from the success of last year’s Haileybury themed visit to St Paul’s, we are delighted to say that the President has been able to arrange a further visit to the Cathedral on Tuesday 14th May.
This will consist of a private tour around the main Cathedral floor and the Crypt, including one or two additional features only accessible through such tours, plus the following ‘Haileybury extras’:
- The substantial memorial to Sir Henry Bartle Frere and his tomb
- The tomb of Rev Henry Melvill
- Attlee’s involvement in Sir Winston Churchill’s state funeral
- The Lawrence memorial
The tour itself should last around 2 hours, including the Haileybury additions, for which we have secured the exclusive services of one of St Paul’s Official Guides, Dr Graham Goddard – who by one of life’s remarkable coincidences also happens to be an OH (B 64)!
After the tour members may take the opportunity of visiting the Whispering Gallery and the higher external galleries around the dome, attending the daily Eucharist/Communion service at 12.30, or enjoying some refreshment in the Crypt cafeteria or tea-room, or indeed all three. Equally of course people may prefer to visit one of the many neighbouring restaurants or watering-holes, or simply make their way homewards.
20 places are being offered, and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Members are more than welcome to apply for a place for a spouse or other accompanying person (please indicate this on the booking form).
The cost will be £22 per person, to cover admission to the Cathedral, the private tour, a small charitable donation to be made to St Paul’s by the Society, and a booking fee.
